当時、マスタードは量り売りされることも多く、店頭でマスタードの粉末や種、あるいは塊をこの種の紙袋に詰めて販売していました。また、このデザインは、製品がディジョンの最高品質であることを、「女王」のイメージでアピールしています。

王冠を戴き、マスタードの壺の上に君臨する女王の姿は、当時の人々の食卓に欠かせない調味料への敬意と、品質への絶対的な自信を表現しています。
