19世紀後半、フランスの華やかなナポレオン三世様式のエレガンスを伝える、パピエマシェ製のアンティークトレイです。

パピエマシェは、紙を細かく砕き、糊で固めて成形した後、漆やニス、絵の具で仕上げる技法です。非常に軽量でありながら、木材や金属のような滑らかな質感と耐久性を持たせることができます。
貝殻を思わせる優美な曲線と、手に持った時の軽やかな感触が、この素材ならではの魅力。漆のように深い黒漆仕上げは、当時のヨーロッパで流行した東洋の美意識を反映しています。

トレイ全体には、規則正しく配置された星屑のような金彩が散りばめられ、光を浴びるたびに静かに輝きます。当時、貴婦人のサロンで、チョコレートや小さなマカロンを運んだかもしれません。また、優雅なティータイムの傍で、愛用の鍵やカードをそっと預かっていたことでしょう。
